Hogwash
HOGWASH - HOGWASH - You can single out any group of riders/races you want to make a "case" for "due to their riding skill/age/speed/slowness", you name it. It still comes down to all groups, no matter what your "personal" agenda is, NEED TO BE TREATED EQUALLY for all matters concerning rules. No special interest groups in IOTMX period.
The faster guys need more practice time because they clear the jumps, GIVE ME A BREAK. An argument could be made the slower guys need more practice because they DON'T clear the jumps. And so on and so on.
You can use any MATH you want to try to figure out the times but it still comes out equal time on the track for all classes. (Although Leroy's math totally escapes me)
I am a 60+ rider and my "Personal" agenda is: THERE IS NOTHING LIKE PUTTING THE FIRST TIRE MARK ON A NEW GROOMED RACE TRACK. I want to be first all the time.

Hi Bobby
Robert Ince here. I don't race anymore but I agree with Layne Kolbet that a couple of trips around the track to get the lay of things is sufficient. Your actual practice should have been taken care of long before you reached the track.
Besides, I believe that more lines will be developed if the track is set in under race conditions rather than the usual single file practice.
Sorry for putting my nose where it might not belong.

Good And Necessary
I read with interest the letter from Russ Wyant concerning the expense of racing in Arizona. This event is for me one of the premium events of the year. The Arizona club has restructured the costs of racing making it optional for the T-shirt and the dinner. I feel that is a good and necessary choice given the economy, etc.
He also says he cannot justify the race cost; in reality for me the whole idea of racing motocross is difficult to justify. It is a sport that costs money to enjoy. Some venues do cost a bit more and some a bit less; ALL are somewhat similar.
Our event in Tulare will take a cue from the Arizona event and make the dinner and T-Shirt optional. These are hard times to put on a race and we need folks like Arizona who think out of the box. I clearly recall attending the Carlsbad event that was only supported by 38 Old Timers. I think I can state that if all of Carlsbad's events do not garner more support than that, it will be hard to expect them to continue.

Sorry to see post from Russ Wyatt (ID) commenting on his perceived expense for the AZOT Int’l and indicating that he will not attend as a result. He wasn’t able to make it in 2009 or last year either, maybe for different reasons. Actually, we don’t get many Idaho Chapter entries…..two in 2009, one in 2010.
Not sure how Russ calculated $163 “JUST TO BE IN THE GATE” …... maybe as follows:
Entry $75
Gate 20 (2 days)
Camping * 20 (2 days)
Sat. meal* 13
Shirt* 15
Fri. practice* 20
TOTAL $163
*CAMPING, MEAL, SHIRT AND PRACTICE are OPTIONS that can be selected but are NOT required .
This year, providing those items as options was done to provide opportunities for reduced individual expense and in consideration for those who might just not want another shirt, prefer to cook for themselves, stay in a motel/ home or don’t want/need to practice.
Hopefully Russ will reconsider and find other ID folks who might like to come. I think they will and find it to be a good event.
Thanks,
Jerry Harpole
I applaud AZ's attempt to give us choices when filling out the race entry. If you want the dinner and a tee shirt or don't - no problem. Good idea! Not so fond of a gate fee - and on top of that a camping fee. The people traveling over 500 miles to race should not be welcomed by being turned upside down, shaken so to have all their loose change fall out to be scooped up.
I wish the idea of gate fee's and * camping charge - (like we enjoy camping next to the sewer treatment pond, or whatever wasteland we are allowed to hold motocross races) - would go away. How about a rule change that forbids gate fee's and - ……camping fee's - for anyone traveling from out of state? Do we really want part of the entry fee going to someone that needs to be compensated for standing guard at the gate and collect cash? If the cost to race is $163 - at least let me send it to you with my entry. I don't like having to bring my cookie jar with me. I would rather support some kids selling lemonade.
AZ does a great job and I enjoy going to their race. This is not a slam on them - it is a growing trend that should have been flushed years back. I know it originated with cities or states charging a fee to go toward keeping parks open. They probably have to do it - but most tracks do not need to shake us down the way that seems to normal operating procedures these days.
