Lawnman (Vince), you have posted a couple times about the Old Timers becoming the Gang. The truth is, they (both clubs) have always been the same. Only real differance is when they were first formed each catered to a 10 year age group of rider. The gang was 30-39 and the old timers were 40+. At the time there wasn't additional age groups to ride and the "natural progression" was to compete in the gang (Vets) until you turned 40 and then almost "automatically" become an Old Timer. As the years passed and additonal age groups developed and differant people had there "visions" realized, the two became more and more separated. Was a time when the gang had there nationals in conjunction with the old timers. (Made sence with venues and financial). Things always change and that is good for some and hard to accept for others.
I guess my point is: one has not become the other because they have always been the same, just differant age groups. With the additional age groups in recent years that the gang has added, if any comparisons needed to be made, it is that they have become us........................basic understanding of a vet, OTHG racer or OTMX racer is we are older guys that just enjoy racing and all we need is for someone to tell where and when and we will be there.................................Rooster

Bobby wrote "Lawnman, don't pay too much attention to mxgranpa. He gets a little cranky when he's not riding."
To add to that the guy's around here know not to pay too much attention to mxgranpa under any circumstances. I didn't think anyone would take my post too seriously. It's all in fun, no worries. Glad to have Lawman interested in Nevada OTMX & joining the discussion. Thanks Bob I didn't realize I was getting stressed, I hadn't ridden in 24 hours. Whew! .

Very true Bobby. My race count was very general. There are actually many classes where a guy could be in contention with only 5 races. It just depends on the class.
Everything in marketing is Niche specific, some niches are just larger than others. Somebody could say that motocross is only a small niche in the extreme sports niche, or that Dirt bikes are only a small portions of the motorcycle niche. You could even go more general and say motocross caters to the white male between the ages of 12-70 years old.
Generally when business is good its nice to have some exclusivity and when business is slow it nice to have a broader group to market to. I think adding the 30+ widens the market for all but the So Cal and Reno areas because there is already a group catering to that market. I don't see how changing to 4 motos changes the group of people that would attend.
The only advantage to doing 4 motos is that it frees up some time to run more/longer support motos. I wonder if the groups that proposed this change have any number to back up their ideas that it will bring in a different group of people?

This subject has taken on a life of it's own and no need for me to hang around any longer. Well fellow racers I composed a nasty post because I felt Lawman was being condescending when he provided me with three spellings and definitions of niche that he needn't have. But couldn't bring myself to post it. And I'll see you all on another subject or at the track or at the meeting or in jail or oh heck I'll just see ya.

Oh gosh I'm so embarrassed, here I said I was gone from the subject and then here I am again. As we used to say when I lived in Santa Cruz CA.....What a squid! I told my wife I was going back on and she called me a Dweebe. My self image has just taken a tumble!
Anyhow, I thought I might add one more kink to this discussion. Before I go on I must qualify my comments by saying this is just what I've been told several times and I have never talked to Mr Sofka about this matter. Somewhere JB mentioned the "groups" advocating the 4 moto format. It appears there is no "group' advocating a 4 moto format. The 4 moto format idea comes from a Mr. Sofka the VP of SoCal. Mr Sofka is also the primary mover & shaker of the LA Club (previously defunct) the Carlsbad club (new) & the Las Vegas club (new again). He runs the races at these clubs and some believe he wants a 4 moto format to have time for more support classes and that his motives are purely selfish. Mr. Sofka is a professional race promoter and he is the last three clubs mentioned above. So "I've been told" there are no "groups" advocating a 4 moto format, it all comes from Mr. Sofka. Personally I don't have a problem with Mr. Sofka, we now have three more races than we would have if he weren't doing what he's doing. So good on ya Mr Sofka!!
