The Sierra Old Timers are having several play days at the MMX Sand Track. The Sierra International is 5/5-6 and they are having a practice at MMX on 5/4. I am just guessing but it looks like thay might be planning on having their International at MMX on the sand track. sierraotmc.com/images/stories/Events/ridedayschedule2012.pdfSaturday - 4/28. Friday - 5/4. ?? Saturday - 6/9. Sunday - 6/10. Saturday - 8/18. Saturday - 10/13.

The sand track is way to short (about 1 min. per lap for 40 Masters) and it doesn't have room fora start straight. Personally I love the Sand Track it's the best sand you'll ever ride on. I'm guessin', maybe the "Big" track at MMX.

Yes it is a short track and they do have a starting gate and a start straight there. The gate is not permanently in the ground. Fish pulls it out after they have a race there. I have raced at the MMX sand track. They even had a round of the CMC golden state series and some AMP races on the sand track. It is definitely doable for an OT international. I am not saying that is where the Sierra OTMX is having their race because I don't know. All I am saying is that they are having a Friday practice at the MMX sand track the day before their international. It would be very strange to have a Friday practice at a track and then pack everything up and move to another track for their international the next day.. The sand track is good but not even close to the Fern! I think the other track at MMX sucks! I hate it. If that is where the International is going to be I will leave my bike in the truck and just watch.

Say what you may, I like it. It holds up like the Fern. West maybe a little better. But I think it's to short for an International. I go down there about once a month, The sand packs down really nice, unlike when it was part of E Street. It's kinda like the DG around Reno but the roost doesn't hurt. A lot of Old Timers and Gang guys show up on Tuesdays. All the jumps and table tops are do-able by this old man. It never fluffs up like the Gang track. It's just a nice place to ride something different.
Here's hoping Anderson doesn't screw up the original Riverfront track. If he want's quads and triples there's plenty of room on the track Scott Davis put in. The original Riverfront track is so much fun!

The reason that I don't like it as much as the Fern is because it has to much river silt in it and it packs down to hard. I like my sand loose and fluffy!

Looks like it has it's fair share of rocks mixed in also? ?? What are the average lap times at that track larry?? Really, doesn.t matter how long the track is at an international cause 15 min. is 15 min. right? Shorter track means less things to remember and you know how old guys are, CRS and all..............................Rooster

Really, doesn.t matter how long the track is at an international cause 15 min. is 15 min. right? Shorter track means less things to remember and you know how old guys are, CRS and all..............................Rooster The sand track is around (I asked) 1/4 mile (1320 feet), lap times are around 1 minute for Master 40 's. I was timed at 6'45" for five laps with only me out. There's kind of a group that shows up on Thursday's for practice, those who are Experts or Masters are just over or right on one minute. I've timed Andy Jennings (50 Expert) on my wrist stop watch at 63 seconds. I haven't noticed any rocks as I said in my post above the sand looks like the brown Reno DG but it's sand and no worries with roost. The sand packs but it never becomes hard pack like most California tracks it's closer to Exit 28 than anything I've ridden lately. If they can pull it off with 100 riders or more at an International it would be great but if you had say two gates of 15 riders each (like the 40+'s) it would be 30 riders on a 1/4 mi. racers would be running all over each other. No double gates? What time would that get over? I don't know Larry seems to be the expert on the track, I only go down there about eight times a year for practice usually on Thursday's just to ride something different. As for the "Big" track, Larry stated he wouldn't ride that track and I guess that means under any circumstances, Again, I don't know, racing is racing as far as I'm concerned you do the best you can with what ya got (if ya can't jump 'em roll 'em so to speak). The owner changes the Big Track all the time I can't believe he wouldn't cut it down some for the Old Timers, he's a good guy. I've never had a problem with the big track but it's just a couple of laps at a time waiting for them to water & groom the Sand Track.

Your point about the number of ridiers on a short track is well taken, not fun riding/racing in lapped traffic for the whole moto. What you said about taking what you are handed is also well taken, you race what everyone races.............No matter, I will attend Sierra International wherever and whatever they hand us.
Have never ridden at MMX (either track) so it would be fun to go down for one of their practices and see what's up. You say it's on Thrusdays? What are the times, expense, etc............do they have a "vet" session?........................Rooster

What are the times, expense, etc............do they have a "vet" session?........................Rooster Ok lets see....I was there in early January. At that time from where Larry's pictures shows (there wasn't a start gate) it's about 40 yds. to a left the a short straight with fast woops to a 160 degree L a very short straight a nice berm, 160 short straight, 90 short with two minuscule tables 70 degree left straight BIG whoops 180 straight with two tables 70 degree R. fast very short straight, R two jumps then back to the curve (start straight?). The track changes from time to time but it's still in the same small area. If you remember E street until about 4 years ago the sand track is the old back (southwest) section where all that deep sand was (riders got lost for days in those wholes). It's now the MMX sand track with stuff added that makes it hold up real well. E street & MMX are right next door to each other. Nothing scheduled on Thursdays. I started going down there because Bob Mars and a couple of other guys were showing up for practice, that started at E Street years ago now some Gang members show and 3-4-5 or 1 or 0 Old Timers show up, you can never count on anything. No Vet session except when the Sierra club has a ride day, everyone's invited. Vet session not needed the Big Track is also open and the young guys seem to like it better. $$25.00 for the day, 9am 'till 2 or 3pm depending on his mood, your warn out by then, I've never made it 'till closing. I usually go to mmx & practice then go visit my daughter and come home the next day...but if I had a passenger for a day trip to split the $ I'd do a turn around. My last post on the issue, I'm not going to argue with Larry about details on the track it changes now and then.

I disagree. I think those are 156 degree turns and the 180 is actually a 186Degree. Aren't you finding out for us where they are running the sierra international anyways... ?

I believe the April 28 play day with the Sierra Old timers is a great opportunity to ride the MMX track in Marysville. I have never ridden there and would be great to see what to expect for the OTMX international coming on the following week. We should make up a list of interested racers that would like to go and do some "car-pooling" to make if more affordable. I know I want to go and I am sure Russ Held will want to go. How about it, big "G", JB, LB, Duane, Stan, Harry, James, Chicster, RIck, anyone that is a active rider within the Nev. OTMx. Lets do this together.................................Rooster

This is the kind of thing the club needs! Car pooling and helping each other!
I'M GOING! I don't have a back seat in my truck, but if my pratice partner can't make it I be glad to (no happy to) give any member a ride. I'll post it on this thread as soon as I can.
The Sierra race will use the sand track & a portion of the area where the kids track is. I'm told by a reliable source we'll be jumping across the road that leads to the river! That should be good fun!

OK, I see this to be the begining of a list. So far there are 3 guys on the list, Jim, Russ and Russ. How about some other OT racers getting behind this and get on the list. Maybe we can show that there are more than only a couple of nevada members willing to race the internationals. Let the list begin.
NEXT !!!!!!!!!
