Here are the minutes from the March Meeting.
Thank you Teri.
2012 March Minutes –
OTMX –
Members in attendance –
Teri Trainor, Jeramiah Brown, Rick Lloyd, Gilbert Chick, Russell Held, Harry Trainor, Russ Wyant, Stan Smith, Jim Hershman, Greg Chappel,
We had a two day practice. Some changes were made to the track. There was a new dirt start area. Ok turn out. Due to the extra work that was done on the track (loader rental/fuel), we ended up loosing a little bit on the practice. Too make practice more profitable, we need to do less track prep. Maybe just drag the track and put down a little water, ride what is there.
There was a OTMX ride event. We got six new members from the event and several other people took applications. There were 11 more apps the following weekend.
There was a race the following weekend. Saturday had a great turn out and lots of fun. There were 3 major injuries. Sunday had a few issues. Races started late due to the track being a sheet of ice at the start of the day. The temp was 19 degrees at the beginning of the day. Even though we didn’t start the race until 11am we had them done by 5pm and didn’t cut any laps out. Once everything got rolling, it went smoothly. Numbers were 166 on Saturday and 236 on Sunday.
Some ideas that were brought up to help the next race go smoother: Have the riders meeting at the starting gate while race 1 is on the line and race 2 is in the hole. Have a meeting with prayer and anthem, then start the race off right away, less lag time to start off. The announcer seemed to help the race go smoothly.
There was a GP held at Fern. There is lots of buzz about it and lots of positive feedback. Team race on Sunday, around 189 riders, 75 teams, half of the people seemed to be desert and half motocross riders.
There were two Internationals that were ran, Tulare and AZ. Duane Quick, Gregg Chappel and James Lamont went to Tulare and Duane want to AZ.
Greg gave a report for the Tulare International – Great race, 16 minute motos 76 old timers, 3 motos Saturday and 2 on Sunday. No medic runs, Gang ran support on Sunday.
Sierra OTMX will be in Marysville this year, the first week in May 5 & 6.
Next International will be held in LA.
We need to look at a transponder system for the track. One option will cost $4,000. OTHG is willing to split the cost. It would include 400 stickers (extra sticker are $1 each) Price of the systems are coming down. It is the same system they ran at the Arenacross. Comes with a router, must be in the ground or overhead.
We discussed changing the way we are listed with the state. A motion by Russ was made to dissolve the way we are now (not currently a non-profit) and go as profit. Seconded by Jim Hershman. Ayes – unanimous. To do this will take some time. But it is the safest avenue to go. It would cost $7,000 to $12,000 to be a non-profit and $600- $1,000 to set up as LLC.
April practice, Easter weekend. We are going to run all three tracks with minimal prep. There will be an easter egg hunt for the kids. Teri was nominated to take care of the egg hunt.
END OF MINUTES – Teri Trainor
