James “Jim” Allen Willis died suddenly Saturday, July 28, 2012. He was 64.
Mr. Willis was born March 4, 1948, in Oakland to Doris and Harry Willis. He worked for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and in the 1970s moved to Calaveras County, where he continued to work for PG&E as a water systems repairman for 33 years. In the foothills, Mr. Willis was able to indulge in dirt bikes and the outdoors, a passion he shared with his wife, Sara Stone, and their children. After Mr. Willis and his wife divorced he continued to live in Hathaway Pines with his daughter.
After retiring in 2005, Mr. Willis moved to Orofino, Idaho, with his wife, Karen, and his mother and brother. He joined PLAY and became involved in promoting the rights of motorized recreationists to ride on public lands. He was PLAY’s current president, a life-long member of the American Motorcycle Association and a member of the International Oldtimers Motocross, where he still raced.
Mr. Willis loved riding horses, racing motocross and going trail riding and camping with family and friends. He enjoyed working on bikes and helping kids to not only ride but also learn how to repair their own bikes. Mr. Willis fulfilled his retirement dreams once he moved to Idaho and owned enough property for his horses and growing hay. He passed away doing what he enjoyed most, riding with friends on single-track trails in the North Fork area.
Mr. Willis is survived by his wife, Karen of Orofino; his children, Blaine and Naomi Willis of California; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Chuck.
