Larry; You missed one. Scott Salisberry entered as a Master B rider. That makes a total of 13 Nevada Old Timer riders at the Sierra chapter race of the International race series held at Honey Lake last weekend. More than double what was originally claimed. According to Annie's (Old Timer International Secretary) race report, there were a total of 160 Old Timer riders that raced at the Sierra chapter International event. Last year the count was almost the same. The statement that the rider count was down is incorrect. I don't have the stats for the support classes. There may have been fewer riders than in the previous year. There may have been more. Annie McCarthy is the International Secretary. Thanks Annie for getting the results released so quickly. She is affiliated with the Washington chapter. If you go to their website at www.oldtimermx.com you will find a lot of Old Timer information and race results that have been posted there over the last few years. There are links to other chapter's websites there and on this Nevada website. There are a total of 12 chapters in the International Old Timer organization. Los Angeles, Riverside, Central Valley and Sierra make up the 4 chapters in California. Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Washington, and Rocky Mountain make up the rest of the U.S. chapters. There are 2 Canadian chapters. One in British Columbia and one in Alberta. There are no rules that say a rider must represent the state or area that he lives in. As an example, there are many riders from other states that belong to the Idaho chapter. Allen Bray belonged to quite a few different chapter's over the years that he raced. If a rider has an issue about riding with his local club, he doesn't have to give up racing in the Old Timer International series. He can join another chapter and continue to participate at the events. I like the chapter letter "N" displayed on our chapter's riders bikes, too. We also ask our riders to wear our "colors" on the back of their chest protector or jersey. Bob Fabel Facts Speak Louder Than Words and Lies Will Collapse by Themselves - chinese proverb

You know Bob you almost made it with a great post until the last sentence!

Mark; I did not call anybody a liar. Don't put words in my mouth. The quote you are refering to is an ancient chinese proverb.
I was not able to make this fact filled post any earlier. I received the information from Annie (The International Secretary) tonight when I got home. She had e-mailed the information to me today about noon time. It just was not possible to get the facts to you any sooner.

The Sierra OT web site has some good photos up if anyone wants to look at them. P.S. I run an 'N' on my plates at the International events. I always have my colors on the back of my chest protector. Even at the Gang national at the oatfield. It is a matter of pride in my club.

After reading all of these posts I feel compelled to over step my bounds as I am not a member of the OTMX any more. I did not rejoin as I was ashamed to be a member of a club after they cheated two members out of their jackets (Mark Cody and Ken Geddis) so that the riders that helped worked events that didn't race could receive them instead. I was the OTMX secretary last year. The year before we lost a valuable member due to this very fact. I was determined to never let this happen again. The first thing I did as the new secretary was get all the rules in writing before the season started for earning points. The previous year 2004 points where never even actually kept they made them up at the end of the year as I found out later from a club officer when I told him I was upset at the few points I was awarded for all my work on the web site and the races. The reason being was the secretary's computer had been broken, so for 9 months no actual points where kept, just an estimate of who did what mainly the track workers from the year before no race points where awarded. Race points where never actually kept no wonder I was only placed in the top 20. After words I was moved up to the 14th slot just missed my jacket what a surprise.
2005 new secretary, new rules all voted on by the club. At no point did we have any stupid rule that limited the race points you could earn. At no time was there any mention of help point taking any president over race points. I know this for fact as I kept an accurate record of our new point system. It was very clear and concise very fair to people who didn't race and to those that did. All any one had to do was participate to earn points. After every week I posted all points total on the web site so there would be no surprises at the end of the year. I spent hours tracking points keeping a very accurate record of everyone's points. In late October close to awarding points some officers noted that a few people who didn't help on work day would earn jackets. This was unacceptable to them and a few members that where losing the points race to the guys that raced every national and raced local races. A new rule was imposed on me to enforce this rule was changed 10 months into the game. This was unacceptable to me and should have been as well to any person what any character or moral values. The sad thing was is that the club president has the power to let the club award a few more jackets. He (Stan Smith choose not to do this) There was nothing I could do other that let it be known that I would not rejoin the club if they choose to take this coarse of action. Obviously my contributions to the club were not enough for the majority of the voting members to give a crap about. Apparently the jackets give the clicque their identity.
So Layne to answer part of your question the two OTMX members that raced the most last year myself and Greg Chappel are not members any more. Gregg unhappy about the points issue and then to cap it all off OTMX voted to leave MXWEST (strange we had first choice for race schedule? And he was on the board so we {OTMX} were in like Flint. Must have been an ulterior motive there like, control issues??) Gregg has joined a different chapter of OTMX as do many Nevada riders due to various political reasons. I see that they have rebutted you and that in fact they had a whopping 13 members show up! WOW! To me that would be a huge embarrassment for a club that was supposed to be a race club. Especially so close to home with gas prices they way it is this is cheap racing! You must relies this is not a race club as the ex-vice president told me in our meetings at least five times. And I quote Russ Wyant "We are not a race club! If you want to join a race club go to the OTHG." Plain and simple this is a working club you don't have to race to be a member or earn a jacket or even have a motorcycle for that matter.
As for what Layne does or doesn’t do I will say this: he has been the biggest help to my racing success that I can think of. He started a rider support maybe you should have checked that out before you guys start girl doging at him. All I know is he helped out both my riding and racing more than any member in the NVOTMX did. In fact the only other member that I received any support or help form was Greg Chapel who is now a member of a different chapter…..Sad!
If I have offended any one too f'n bad, sometimes the truth hurts. NVOTMX keeps loosing members, as Rick has suggested maybe its time to look at what NVOTMX is doing and realize why people go join other OTMX club that live in Nevada.

Wow Lon I was really caught off guard by your the first part of your post. I did not even know that you were talking about me when you said what they were doing about the jacket. I think my response was something like that is BS! Now that I know it was me that you were talking about really makes me feel two different ways. Sad and Ticked! Sad because of what they accused me of not doing. I worked many times and did not list my name or anything else. Heck there was many times I did not get credit for the OTHG either. Who cares! I did not care because it is all about racing and having fun. It was my first full year as a OTMX member. Now I see that the rules got changed because they felt I did not deserve it! Now comes the ticked part! Yes, it was my first year as a OTMX member and I had a blast racing the Nationals at Fernley. Never got a chance to do any other tracks but was planning on it. Thanks for everything Reno OTMX officers.! See you guys at the National in September! I will have a blast with fellow riders and friends! Respectfully, Mark Cody 58 I if available, Formally known as 58 N

This last Sunday was fantastic. I went to my life long friends house in Fallon and we took off across the desert. Those 1 mile long whoop sections sure can wear a old man out. Running full speed down the road and trying to reach over to my riding partners front brake.Doing 60 plus and running out of road. When there is water in the road the race is on. The first guy doesn't get wet much but the second guy gets a good cooling off. Heading out across a dry lake bed and finding out its not that dry.Climbing a mountain stopping at the top to take a cool drink and smoke a -------- cigarette. Enjoying the day, the scenery, and enjoying the friendship that two people shared for over 40 years.Thats riding. Racing is a whole different story. I like riding much more.
