I got the new flyer for the series and also the othg insert promoting their race. My questions is, will there be any non-pro classes for the riders wanting to preserve their amateur racing status? Racing for money will lead to alot of protests at races like Loretta's and Ponca. Thanks racergreg

Racergreg I'm confuses on what you mean?I got the same flyer yesterday and i understood it to be like a contingency thing for all the 1st place and 2nd place series class winners for the day. Am i missing something? The only thing that was mentioned about pros is that there was a 200% pro payback. Jamie

The way I read it. It says 1st place over all wins $ 50.00 2nd place over all wins $ 25.00. Money paid out to all series class winners for that day. So if the supermini class is a normal series class then that winner would win $ 50.00? I don't know. But after watching this week ends protest by a factory Suzuki riders dad because his son got beat by a local rider in the stock class(which meant they tore down the engine, forks and shock to the point of even counting the shims in the shock) I wouldn't be surprised to see someone protest the supermini rider racing for money sometime down the line. racergreg

Hi Greg,
The supermini class is NOT a SMRA series class. I wasn't aware of the extra flyer by the Gang, but good for them! I guess if a "factory dad" protests the generosity of a local promoting club, it would be his bad! I just hope every one supports SMRA and has FUN! Isn't this what it's all about?
Give Lynn a hug and let her know that she will ALWAYS be "OB1" to me.
All the best, Judy

Sorry Judy, I was just using the supermini as an example. It could be any class. I haven't really kept up on which classes are which. I thought it was pretty bad when the "factory dad" protested hoping to get his kid moved up one position into qualifying for Loretta's. I'm happy the gang is giving back to the riders, my only point was does this turn the riders into pro racers because they are riding for money? It has nothing to do with having fun or supporting SMRA.

PS. I will.

This is a simple answer…..You can’t win money and keep your amateur status! On page 4 of the AMA rulebook states.
AMATUER RIDERS= motorcycle riders not competing for cash awards.
The problem is it can affect anybody that wins or races for money through insurance, school scholarships and school sport programs. If you race for or win money it can affect more things than you think, this is why Honda gives Mastercard gift cards for contingency. As does other manufactures do much the samethings. That way you are not directly receiving money/cash.

So just racing for money whether you win or not can jeopardize your amateur status? Thanks racergreg
